The Oatmeal had something interesting to say about Christopher Columbus. Since Monday is Columbus Day – and Canadian Thanksgiving, I’d rather celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving. But Thanksgiving was always a time for family to get together, and I’m missing my family big time, so that’s why I’d prefer to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving.
In other news, I figured out why it supposedly costs so much to build a house in this town. You get the house framed, and you need an inspection. You get it wired, you need an inspection. You get the insulation in, you need an inspection. Again when you get the sheet rock in before you start taping the cracks. Again when you finish. And each inspection costs money.
But our wiring is done, so we’re getting there. We need to get the framing done so we can get that inspection done.
I’m so looking forward to having everything done once and for all.

The last blue screen crash of my laptop gave me this error. Finally I have something to go on, though it sounds more and more like a hardware issue.

No, the title of my post doesn’t mean I’m lonely, not really.
My Marine son posted a picture today, and it made me realize how much he’s grown up. I haven’t seen him in over 18 months. In that time, he’s been deployed to Afghanistan. He’s been on training exercises. He’s been changing. And he’s been weight lifting – as evidenced by the picture he uploaded tonight. I swear his biceps are huge.
In all, he’s been growing up, and I miss my boy. We haven’t spoken much since he came back from Afghanistan. It’s partially my fault, I know. I’m never sure if he’s busy, if I”m going to interrupt anything if I call. So I don’t call.
Make that it’s mostly my fault.
And tonight, I’m missing the inside jokes we used to tell, where we could say just one or two words and bust out laughing, and we’d make my husband roll his eyes. Yea, I’m a geek and I married a non-geek. On the other hand, my oldest is another gamer geek.
My youngest started pre-k last month, and I’m sure that’s part of why I want to turn back time. I can remember my oldest starting school. I can remember the book his pre-k teacher bought him, which I quoted on Facebook on his 22nd birthday.
And my middle child is having problems with 3rd grade. My oldest had problems with 3rd grade, but for a different reason – or maybe partially for the same reason. I’m going to have to fight for her like I fought for him, pushing to make the school help me help her.
Maybe it’s just the whole getting older thing. I wish I could keep them young forever 😛
Laterness & g’nite.

So things have been crazy lately.
If you tried to check my site and it was down, or coming up unavailable, I apologize. I forgot to renew my hosting.
Obviously, my brain has been elsewhere. But at least I was able to keep all of the information, and everything is back up now.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled (non) posting. I’ll have to try to give a real update this week.

I keep seeing jokes about how people who ride on roller coasters end up getting sick. I’ve never gotten sick on a roller coaster, even when my jaw was broken and I had to convince the carnies that I could ride the rides while my jaw was wired shut.
Real roller coasters are fun. My life and emotions lately… not so much.
The house we bought is paid off. Yay 🙂
It seems like we’re never going to get the money together to pay the electrician and plumber. Boo 🙁
We’ve got the windows mostly done, or at least the ‘king studs’ and ‘headers’ on them. We’re working on the doors. Yay! 🙂
We need to pay an exterminator to get rid of the wasps since our traps aren’t working. Boo 🙁
We’re making progress on saving money. Yay! 🙂
The niece is driving us crazy and we need to be in our own place yesterday. Boo 🙁
Up and down. I think I”m getting dizzy. I spent a lot of time on a built in cabinet in the bathroom, and I”m not even sure if the electrician is going to want that cabinet out.
I was trying to find a non-poisonous way to get rid of the weeds growing too close to the house, and sprayed them with vinegar. I think I attracted the wasps back after paying over $100 for the exterminator. I’m debating getting a trowel and a kneeling pad and just digging everything up. I don’t want to spray poison where the kids play.
Right now, my emotions are down in the pits. My sister’s birthday is this week, and I miss my family. I think maybe it’s time for sleep. Morning comes too early these days.

When you’re having brochures professionally done, you’re probably going to be spending a lot of money. Make sure your brochure is correctly spelled.
Sight has to do with vision not the web.
You want people to visit your web site

My 8 year old daughter had to get glasses.
While in school she was having a lot of headaches. We thought they might have been caused by her long hair that we had cut about 3 weeks ago, but daddy promised to bring her to the eye doctor when he went to his appointment. Her eyes are almost as bad as mine. We picked up the glasses yesterday.
Her first day of daycare wirh glasses reminded me of the first day I had roast start wearing glasses all day at school. I remember walking down the hall with my head looking as far down as I could, hoping no one would notice.
Someone did. Sheb (yes that was his name) told me to look up, that the glasses looked good. I don’t remember exactly what he said, but he certainly encouraged me to hold my head high.

So I now have this handy little app on my phone for when I see something that I want to post. Today at the grocery store I saw the above magazine. Notice it’s the premier edition.
I find it mind-boggling that someone thinks there’s enough of a market out there to support a magazine on this subject.
Personally I think that the magazine won’t be available for long. I glanced through it and in my opinion you can get more and better information from Mother Earth News.

I decided to take today off work to get more done on the house. Today I’m working on something I’ve been working on for awhile – refinishing the built in bathroom cupboard. I took out the shelves easy enough, and just sanded and painted them on one side. Then I started stripping the cabinet door. I’ve already done most of the rest of the woodwork. The only thing left is the drawers. I am going to have to make a new face for one of the drawers, but I’ll strip and paint the other 2.
I also went and paid off the house today – over my brother’s objections (LOL I was asking my mother’s opinion on doing it and he said he disagreed without knowing what we were talking about.)
